Currently we are looking for a Database Engineer for our Austin, TX office to make the team even stronger.

EPAM is looking to build and strengthen our team across the country by identifying talented Database Engineer. Our ideal candidate will maintain and update the database system deployed within the client’s environments, which includes regional distribution, Amazon AWS, and Google Cloud. You will be part of the Operations team that enhances, supports and maintains both the physical hardware and the software stack helping to ensure that the environment remains operational 24/7.

  • Management and monitoring of Vertica, MongoDB, Postgres and SQL Server databases;
  • Automation, monitoring and management of common database administration tasks such as backups;
  • Proactively review database operations including running queries for further optimization;
  • Display knowledge of and expertise in both UNIX and Windows environments;
  • Work with the development team to implement schema changes and optimize query performance;
  • Work with external Vendors, including HP Vertica, and internal teams to optimize applications;
  • Work with HP Vertica, engineering, and client teams to diagnose and correct problems with the DBMS or related components.


  • SQL Expert, including an understanding of query optimization and schema design for a column oriented, clustered, shared nothing database architecture;
  • Extensive RDBMS experience, including with Vertica;
  • Strong Unix/Linux Skills including basic shell scripting;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment;
  • Experience with other "Big Data" platforms such as Hadoop;
  • Experience with Oracle;
  • Scripting experience in Python;
  • Experience with big data and multi-server, column oriented database systems such as Vertica;
  • Experience working in a mixed environment including cloud components;
  • Experience running an RDBMS in a cloud environment.
